Topic outline

  • This course introduces hydraulic system, hydraulic components, hydraulic system design, pneumatics system, pneumatic components, pneumatic system design, electro fluid power system and its design, as well as programmable logic controller (PLC) and its design. The hydraulic section will covers on introductory of fluid power, hydraulic systems and components, as well as basic fluid-related measurements. This course also introduces the hydraulic circuit design, including electro-hydraulics circuit. In the pneumatics section, students will be able to calculate pneumatic problems using basic gas laws, as well as explain the pneumatic systems and components. For the pneumatic circuit design section, students will be able to design and analyze basic and multiple pneumatic circuits as well as electro-pneumatic circuits. Lastly, in the programmable logic control section, students will learn to explain the components of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and will be able to design, analyze and integrate basic and repeated sequence of ladder diagram with hydraulic components.
  • Hydraulics: Introduction to Pressure Force & Energy

    By the end of this lesson, student should be able to calculate force, torque, pressure, work, energy, power and flow rate

    By the end of this lesson, student should be able to identify hydraulic power pack components: Pump, tank, valves, actuator, motor, piping system both in graphic and circuit symbols


  • Hydraulic Pump

    By the end of this lesson, student should be able to explain type of hydraulic pump, ideal and real pump analysis, pump characteristics and efficiency (mechanical, volumetric and total)


  • Hydraulic Circuit Design

    By the end of this lecture, student should be able to design and analyze basic hydraulic circuit both for single-acting and double-acting cylinder 


  • Introduction to Pneumatics

    By the end of this lecture, student should be able to:

    Explain the characteristics, advantages, disadvantages and application of pneumatic systems.

    Identify basic pneumatic components


  • Design of Pneumatic Circuit

    By the end of this lecture, student should be able to design and analyze basic pneumatic circuit for single cylinder
  • Design of Advanced Pneumatic

    By the end of this lecture, student should be able to:

    Design and analyze multiple-actuators pneumatic circuit for more than one actuators


  • Advanced Electro-Fluids Power

    By the end of this lecture, student should be able to:

    Design and analyze advanced electro-hydraulic circuit with multiple actuators using solenoid valves.

    Identify the symbols in PLC ladder diagram and it’s function.

    Explain basic process of writing ladder diagram.
